About the Conference
Transdisciplinary studies are a reflection of the changing patterns of knowledge production. Ubiquity of transdisciplinary approach is indicative of an important intellectual shift and it represents cognitivity. To understand and formulate better laws at present and in future, a holistic approach in acquainting with other disciplines becomes indispensable. Transdisciplinary concepts have become necessary because differentiation and specialization of knowledge in discrete categories have become a law of being in the 21st century. It is the time we should expand our horizon beyond reductive views of the law and identify and resonate its significance in other disciplines. Legal studies must acknowledge transformation of ideas and genres both within their own discipline and beyond its borders. Transdisciplinary approach promotes the capacity to integrate knowledge and modes of thinking drawn from two or more disciplines to produce a cognitive advancement.
This International Transdisciplinary Conference is the 5th edition to the previous successful International Transdisciplinary Conferences organized in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021.
Main Theme of the Conference
With technological advancement and synthetic development of mankind, exploitation of natural and social resources has accelerated exponentially. Such accelerations have conduced varied practices such as hyper-consuming, commodification etc, which are falsifying the previously consistent demand and supply matrix. Initially, the wants of the people were coherent with their contributing need, but with the advent of such aforementioned practices, the customary preservation of ‘inter-generational equity’ has been impugned. A prudent question predicating the aforementioned premise shall ask for a legitimate solution to such endangerment of ‘equity’. Thus, the means to enhance and mandate such preservation gravitates around the principle of ‘Sustainability’.
Sustainability, in ordinary parlance, can be construed as ‘maintaining the needs of the present without compromising the needs of the future’. Such maintenance is the functional requirement of the society without which the social and financial systems are deemed to collapse. Elkington in his introduction of the concept of the Triple Bottom Line (TBL), or 3P (People, Planet and Profit) in 1994 have identified three major issues to be addressed for integrating the sustainability quotient which are the economic profit, the societal aspects, and the environmental impact. United Nations have realized the pertinent need to address such issues of sustainability by formulating the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015 to set a target for the global community to be achieved by 2030.
Therefore, realizing the fiction of tomorrow, Amity Law School has leaped ahead in its flagship event ‘Transdisciplinary International Conference of 2022’ with the theme ‘Coherence of Global Sustainability – A Way Forward’. The theme is vividly based on an interplay of disciplinary conduct acting in harmony to maximize the preservation of resources and ensuring sustainability in various facets of humanity. Given the current relevance of “sustainability” in almost all the spheres of human existence, it becomes pertinent for academia too to rethink and assess our present situation and plan for the future. The world is also witnessing widespread disquiet. Various national and international organizations have taken lead in sensitizing and formulating policies for assimilating economic, environment, and other related areas to attain sustainability in almost all the spheres of human existence. The theme of this conference is very apposite as it aims to address and provide solutions for significant intertwined global sustainability issues in other streams too such as polity, economics, gender studies, sociology, law, environment, management, etc. by providing a platform for unprecedented discussions through panel discussion followed by paper presentations by eminent scholars, academicians, sociologists, culturists, lawyers, administrators and other stakeholders from various disciplines.
