WORKSHOP ON ‘INFORMATION DRAFTING’ UNDER THE COMPETITION LAW BY THE CENTRE FOR COMPETITION LAW AND ECONOMICS (CCLE) [18TH MARCH 2023]: REGISTER NOW!!

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:

The Centre for Competition Law and Economics is conducting a workshop on ‘Information Drafting’ under the competition law. Filing an information with the competition authority is an important facet of the overall implementation framework. The said exercise involves organisation of key facts of the case and citing relevant legal provisions along with the applicable precedent. The purpose of the workshop is to give hands-on experience to the participants in handling case briefs and draft an information under the Competition Act to report an anti-competitive conduct. The participants would also get a change to interact with the faculties and gain an industrial exposure.

ABOUT THE ORGANISATION:

The Centre for Competition Law and Economics (CCLE) is a research organization working in the field of competition law and economics. The Centre publishes research reports, conducts training activities and assists litigating parties at competition fora across the country to advocate consistent interpretation of the Indian competition law. The Centre regularly collaborates with national law universities and other non-profit organizations to organize seminars, conferences and workshops for the relevant stakeholders to generate capacity in the said field based on mutual interest.

DETAILS OF THE WORKSHOP:

The workshop would be organised in two parts:

1) Theoretical session (Session 1): This session would deal with the core concepts under section 3 and section 4 of the Act, i.e. anti-competitive agreements and abuse of dominance respectively, which form the basis of any information filed before the CCI. This part would briefly discuss:

a) Horizontal Agreements

b) Vertical Agreements

c) Hub and Spoke Arrangements

d) Relevant Market

2) Hands-on experience (Session 2): This session would entail addressing a live problem given by the Centre to the participants and submit an information to the CCI. This will involve:

a) Identification of issues

b) Organization of facts in the case

c) Invoking legal provisions under the Competition Act

d) Praying for appropriate relief at the CCI

ABOUT THE FACULTIES:

Dr. Versha Vahini is Professor of Law at Bennett University. She was earlier Associate Dean and Head of the Department of Faculty of Law, Manav Rachna University. She has also taught at National Law School of India University, Bangalore, National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata and NLIU, Bhopal among other universities. Ms. Vahini has authored three books along with various other journal articles on contentious areas of competition law. She has completed her Ph.D. from Indian Law Institute, New Delhi.

Ms. Deeksha Manchanda is a Partner at Chandhiok & Mahajan. Deeksha specializes in advising clients on aspects of regulatory compliance with focus on competition law. Her practice spans various industry sectors, including, hi-tech, fin-tech, information technology, shipping, automobiles, pharmaceuticals, real estate, and aviation. Deeksha has represented various high profile clients like Google, Flipkart and JCB in various competition and civil dispute matters. Deeksha regularly contributes to various journals and newspapers like, Concurrences, American Bar Association, Mondaq and IBLJ. She was a 2012-13 Commonwealth Scholar to the University of Oxford, where she earned her Bachelors of Civil Law and was awarded the Archibold Bishop Prize by Somerville College, Oxford. She completed her B.A. LL.B. (Honors) at National Law Institute University, Bhopal in 2011 and was awarded a gold medal for her academic performance.

The workshop would be conducted between 5-8 PM IST, 18th March, 2023 (Saturday).
