About the programme

Mediation practices in India and beyond the borders have gained significant prominence as effective means of resolving disputes outside of traditional court proceedings. In India, mediation has been promoted through legislation such as the Mediation and Conciliation Act, 1996, and has been embraced as a cost-effective and time-efficient alternative for resolving a wide range of disputes, from family and commercial matters to labor disputes. Beyond India, mediation has gained traction globally as an essential component of alternative dispute resolution. International organizations like the United Nations have promoted mediation for resolving international conflicts, contributing to peace and stability. Mediation practices transcend borders, cultural differences, and legal systems, offering a flexible and consensual approach to conflict resolution that continues to evolve and expand in today’s interconnected world.
