The disability rights movement is a global social movement garnered towards securing equal rights, access, and opportunities for all persons with disabilities. Comprised of sustained efforts to eliminate barriers and promote inclusivity, this movement has made large strides towards the recognition and development of the rights of disabled persons, from physical access to community spaces, to equality in employment, to access to disability inclusive developments, the group rights associated with disabled persons have slowly and steadily been crystallized in the form of laws, policies and programmes , both at the national, and the international level. Despite the widespread recognition of the rights of persons with disabilities, numerous hurdles persist, impeding their full integration into society. Limited access to education, employment, healthcare, and public spaces perpetuates stereotypes and exclusion.
This conference is an attempt to empower through inclusivity the rights of persons with disabilities. By addressing legal, social, and environmental factors we aim to create a more equitable and accessible world where every individual, regardless of ability, can enjoy their full range of rights and actively contribute to society. The success of these initiatives relies on the collective commitment and collaborative efforts of stakeholders across diverse sectors.
This conference will explore the intricate intersectionality of identities and how it significantly affects the achievement of disability rights. Acknowledging the complex interplay of personal identities, encompassing race, gender, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic background, among others, this conference aims to discuss the particular difficulties encountered by people with disabilities at these points of intersection, the impact of overlapping identities on basic rights like access to healthcare, education, employment opportunities, etc., and the need for approaches to disability rights and benefits that take into account the complex realities of people juggling various identities.
This conference is not just an intellectual endeavor; it is a call to action. It is an opportunity for participants to challenge preconceptions, share insights, and contribute to a collective roadmap for advancing the rights of disabled persons. By breaking boundaries in our understanding, advocacy, and collaboration, we aspire to pave the way for a more equitable, accessible, and inclusive world. Join us in this transformative journey as we collectively strive to break down barriers and ensure that the rights of disabled persons are not only recognized but fully embraced on a global scale.
