NLIU-CRIL Article Writing Competition 2025

About the Competition

The Centre for Research in International Law (CRIL) is organizing an Article Writing Competition to foster academic excellence and research on critical global issues in international law. This competition provides a platform for students to engage with contemporary challenges and innovations in international law while promoting critical thinking and scholarly discourse.

Themes

Participants are encouraged to write on any specific aspect of the following themes:

  1. Global Environmental Law
  2. Trade and Investment Law
  3. Human Rights Law
  4. International Humanitarian Law
  5. International Migration Law
  6. Law of the Sea
  7. International Law and Cyberspace
  8. International Criminal Law

Authors may choose to explore the interplay between multiple themes, but the focus must be on a specific aspect for in-depth analysis.

Eligibility

  • Open to students pursuing undergraduate (3-Year LL.B./5-Year LL.B.), postgraduate (LL.M.), or Ph.D. in law.

Participation

  • Open to individual participants and teams of two.
  • Team members do not need to be from the same institution.

Competition Format

  • A single-phase competition based on essay submissions.
  • Participants must submit original and unpublished essays showcasing their research and analytical abilities.

Important Dates

  • February 1, 2025 – Registrations Open
  • March 10, 2025 – Deadline for Registration
  • March 15, 2025 – Deadline for Manuscript Submission
  • March 18, 2025 – Acknowledgment of Submission
  • April 15, 2025 – Declaration of Results

Timelines are subject to change at the discretion of the organizing committee. Updates will be communicated accordingly.

Awards & Recognition

Winner: ₹15,000/-
1st Runner-up: ₹7,500/-
2nd Runner-up: ₹5,000/-

Publication Opportunity:

  • The top three articles will be published in Volume IV of the NLIU-CRIL Journal of International Law and Policy.

Certificates:

  • Certificate of Merit for the Top 10 entries.
  • Certificate of Participation for all valid entries.

Registration Fees

  • ₹250/- for single-author submissions.
  • ₹400/- for co-authored submissions (maximum of two authors per entry).

Submission Requirements

  • Word Limit: 5000 – 8000 words (excluding footnotes).
  • Originality: Plagiarized content (including plagiarism of ideas) will result in immediate rejection.
  • Editorial Discretion: CRIL may accept manuscripts that do not substantially deviate from the word limit.
