TOPIC

Coronavirus: A Chinese Conspiracy

The Concept Note of the Debate:

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. The Coronavirus
outbreak (officially known as Covid-19), which started in China, has so far killed over 178,863 people across the globe and infected 2,576,861 (as on April 22, 2020). The virus has spread to 185 countries. In India, 20,471 confirmed cases and 652 deaths have been reported so far, according to official figures released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

With US president Donald trump stating it as a chinese virus and Ever since the news about the coronavirus was picked up by global media, speculations about the communist government of China trying to ‘cover-up’ the outbreak and hide the official figures were rife.

The fact that the Chinese Government tried to suppress the attempts of the doctors, who tried to warn the public of the pandemic, is rather alarming and didn’t help their cause. The debate thus tries to bring together all the motivated people to discuss this topic in detail.
