Selection Process

In this competition, essays will undergo a two-tier selection process. Initially, an adjudicating panel comprising eminent jurists and advocates will shortlist five essays. Subsequently, a justice from the Supreme Court of India will further refine the selection to determine the top three winners.

Topic

The competition serves as a platform for participants to demonstrate their analytical prowess and engage in insightful discussions regarding India’s pressing challenges. Entrants are invited to contribute articles on contemporary issues, presenting well-researched arguments and innovative solutions within the theme of “Democracy, Federalism, and the Idea of One Nation, One Election.”

The chosen topic reflects the core value of Indian federalism, as stated in Article 1 of the Constitution as “India, that is Bharat, shall be a Union of States,” has faced challenges concerning regional autonomy versus integration. Despite B.R. Ambedkar’s careful approach to promote unity amidst diversity, subsequent generations have pursued a sense of unity through initiatives like One Nation, One Tax, One Nation, One Ration Card, and the recent addition, One Nation, One Election (ONOE). “Democracy, Federalism, and the Idea of One Nation, One Election” in India triggers a multifaceted discussion. While democracy highlights representation and involvement, federalism balances central authority with regional independence. We encourage participants to share their thoughtful insights and arguments that thoroughly explore and illuminate this subject matter with nuanced perspectives.
