The Academic and Debating Committee of the Chanakya National Law University, Patna, is organising the 14th National Parliamentary Debate to be held from September 22-24, 2023.
About the University
Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) was established in the year 2006 with an altruistic aspiration of serving society by disseminating high-quality legal education and legal awareness. CNLU has garnered a pan-India reputation as a stellar institution for legal research and education. CNLU strives to provide opportunities for students and research scholars to enhance their knowledge, practical nuances and research skills through conferences, capacity building series, guest lectures on contemporary issues revolving in collaboration with Central & State Statutory Bodies, Think Tanks and Research Centres, other National and State Educational Institutions, Law Firms, Trade Associations, among many others. This academic and legal discourse on contemporary and relevant topics is one of the essential aspects of learning to attain proficiency in the legal field.
About The Academic and Debating Committee (ADC)
Being one of the oldest committees at CNLU, ADC can boast about its achievements having created a very favorable environment for debating, quizzing, literary and a host of other academic-related activities within the university, and within the same time enabling outstanding representation in both national and international events and tournaments. ADC has also contributed towards the popularity of the university, with the organization of numerous tournaments such as 13th National Parliamentary Debate, 1st National Quiz and the 1st and 2nd Editions of the CNLU British Parliamentary Debate, inviting contestants from all over the nation. Even when faced with the challenges posed by the COVID-19 Pandemic, the committee continued to function in the online medium, with regular DEBSOC sessions and even the organisation of the 12th National Parliamentary Debate, along with the aforementioned tournaments. This year ADC aims to continue its legacy of successful organisation and its commitment to further the idea of nurturing talents in the field of debating by bringing to you, bigger and better than the previous editions – the 14th CNLU National Parliamentary Debate, 2023.
About The Event
CNLU National Parliamentary Debate presently in its 14th edition, is a 3-day national debating event which witnesses participation from premier institutions from across the country. The tournament being an open tournament, invites people from across the country as debaters and adjudicators. This ensures highest standards of debating by bringing in the best possible competitors as well as meticulous judging in the tournament, highest standards of debating is ensured. The event has been expanding ever since its inception and it is rapidly gaining popularity on a national level. The CNLU National Parliamentary Debate is a great opportunity for law students to hone their debating skills and compete against the best in the country. The tournament will also provide a platform for students to discuss and debate important legal and policy issues.

Eligibility
This tournament is open to all players, regardless of their academic background or affiliation. This means that players who have completed their undergraduate or postgraduate studies, as well as players who are not affiliated to any institution, are all eligible to participate. The tournament will also feature a cross-teams category, where players from different institutions can form teams. Additionally, there will be a novice category for players who are new to the sport. This tournament is a pre-qualifier for the UADC Tournament.
Team Composition
APD is a 3 v. 3 debating format, with side government comprising of the Prime Minister (“PM”) as the first speaker, the Deputy Prime Minister (“DPM”) as the second speaker and Government Whip (“GW”) as the reply speaker. Side opposition consists of the Leader of Opposition (“LO”), the Deputy Leader of Opposition (“DLO”) and the Opposition Whip (“OW”).
