It is observed that there have been significant developments in India, with respect to Securities Laws, in accordance with the global trends, ESG concerns and safeguards the interests of investors. SEBI, in its pursuit to regulate the market, has released several amendments and guidelines. For example, it has released BRSR Core – ESG Norms to prioritize sustainability.

These regulations are a response to the global shift towards sustainability and responsible business practices, aiming to revolutionize transparency, accountability, and combat the practice of “greenwashing” within Indian companies.

Under these new rules, the top 1,000 listed companies are mandated to produce Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reports (BRSR), detailing their ESG performance. These reports must adhere to nine key indicators outlined in the BRSR Core framework, devised by SEBI’s ESG Advisory Committee. To ensure a smooth transition, SEBI is implementing these regulations in a phased manner, starting with the top 150 companies and gradually extending them to the top 1,000 over several fiscal years. The urgency arises as this would be necessary for these companies to continue doing business in those countries who insist on getting ESG reporting, including in value chain and similarly in raising investments where investors look at ESG performance

The organisers feel that there is a need for advocacy in this regard and this event will be able to help the corporates to understand the intent and extent of the said regulations and learn from the experts.
