About DGFT
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) operates as an attached office under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Headed by the Director General of Foreign Trade, DGFT has historically played a key role in regulating and promoting India’s foreign trade. Prior to the 1991 economic liberalisation, its activities primarily focused on trade regulation.
About the Internship Programme
The DGFT Internship Programme offers an opportunity for meaningful interaction between young scholars and the officers of the Directorate. It is designed for students from reputed academic institutions pursuing studies or research in Public Policy, Economics, Law, Finance, or Management.
The programme not only enables interns to gain valuable experience and build professional expertise but also allows DGFT to engage with innovative academic perspectives for internal policy review and improvement.
Objective of the Internship Scheme
The primary goal of the internship is to acquaint interns with the macro-level formulation and micro-level implementation of India’s Foreign Trade Policy. Interns will gain hands-on exposure to how DGFT contributes to trade governance in India.
Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have a graduation degree in Public Policy / Economics / Finance / Management / Law, with at least 60% marks.

Eligible institutions include National Law Schools, Central Universities, AICTE-recognized economic and financial institutions, reputed management institutes, and foreign universities.

Preference will be given to candidates who are currently pursuing or have completed post-graduation in the relevant disciplines.

Open only to Indian nationals, either residing in India or studying abroad.
Internship Duration

The internship is offered for a maximum of 2 months during the summer cycle (June to July) for the academic year 2025-26.
Key Requirements

Confidentiality: Interns must submit a Declaration of Secrecy before beginning the programme.

Final Submission: A report or research paper must be submitted to the Head of Division upon completion of the internship.
Stipend & Certification

Interns will receive a consolidated stipend of Rs. 10,000 per month. No additional benefits will be provided.

A Certificate of Internship will be issued upon successful completion of the programme and acceptance of the final report by the concerned Division Head.

This internship does not entitle the candidate to any form of future employment with DGFT.
