About the Programme:
The International Foundation for the Law of the Sea (IFLOS), in collaboration with Marawa Research and Exploration Ltd., is offering two fully-funded training opportunities for candidates from developing States to attend the 2026 IFLOS Summer Academy at the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS), Hamburg, Germany. The Academy provides an intensive programme on the law of the sea, maritime law, and dispute settlement, supporting capacity-building and strengthening legal expertise in ocean governance.

Programme Duration:
Tentatively July–August 2026 (4 weeks). Exact dates will be communicated to selected candidates.

Eligibility:

  • Master’s degree (LL.M. or equivalent) in law, with advanced knowledge of public international law, law of the sea, or maritime law. Exceptional candidates with a bachelor’s degree and relevant experience may also apply.

  • Minimum 3 years’ professional experience in international law of the sea or maritime law.

  • Strong focus and interest in public international law, law of the sea, or maritime law.

  • Fluent in English; certificate of proficiency where applicable.

  • Good health and required vaccinations for travel to the Schengen region.

Other Requirements:

  • Participation is subject to obtaining the necessary travel visas.

  • Selected candidates must sign the ISA Contractors’ Training Programme Code of Conduct.

  • Submission of an end-of-training report within 4 weeks post-training.

  • A follow-up report 5 years after training to assess long-term benefits.

  • 50% of the training opportunities are allocated to qualified women applicants in line with Marawa’s Women in Deep-Sea Research initiative.
