About the Opportunity
The University of Amsterdam is inviting applications for a PhD position as part of the AlgoSoc project, under the guidance of João Pedro Quintais, Catalina Goanta, and Natali Helberger. This position focuses on examining how the emerging regulatory framework influences public values, power dynamics, and legal relationships in the development and use of generative AI in the media, with particular attention to AI-generated illegal and harmful content.
Eligibility

Master’s degree in law, media studies, communication, or related disciplines

Strong interest in technology law, AI governance, and media regulation

Research and analytical skills with an ability to work independently and collaboratively
Roles and Responsibilities

Conducting doctoral research on generative AI and its regulation in media contexts

Engaging in interdisciplinary collaboration with the AlgoSoc research team

Publishing findings in academic forums and contributing to broader public debates

Supporting the project’s objectives on responsible AI and media governance
