About:
The Centre for Fundamental Rights at the Hertie School, Berlin invites applications for a fully-funded three-year PhD position focused on human rights. This opportunity is part of the COLLISIONS project, led by Professor Violeta Moreno-Lax, examining how values shape law, politics, and governance, and how conflicts between values impact fundamental rights, policy, and international order.
Eligibility:

Strong academic background in law, political science, human rights, governance, or related fields.

Motivation to conduct research on war and security, climate change, migration, and forced displacement.

Ability to join the Doctoral Programme in Governance at the Hertie School.
Roles & Responsibilities:

Conduct in-depth research on challenges to the protection of fundamental rights.

Analyse the role of institutions, international organisations, and courts in addressing these challenges.

Examine how value conflicts influence political and legal processes.

Contribute to academic publications and policy-oriented outputs of the COLLISIONS project.

Participate in seminars, workshops, and collaborative research initiatives at the Hertie School.
