Opportunity for Young Scholars: Essay Competition by the Center for China Analysis, Asia Society Policy Institute | Deadline: October 31, 2025

About the Opportunity:
The Center for China Analysis (CCA) at the Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI) invites submissions for its essay competition under the project “Global Perceptions of China: Insights from the Next Generation.” Led by CCA Fellow Barclay Bram, this initiative seeks to highlight underrepresented perspectives on China’s global role and nurture emerging voices from non-Western countries.

Eligibility:

  • Open to young scholars under the age of 35.
  • Applicants may be based in any country but should focus on perspectives from their country of citizenship or current residence.
  • Background in international relations, political science, Asian studies, or related disciplines preferred but not mandatory.

Prompt:
“The view from X: where China is Y” — Participants are expected to provide a sharp, analytical account of how China is perceived in their respective contexts.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Submit a 500-word paper proposal responding to the prompt.
  • Deadline for proposals: October 31, 2025.
  • Send submissions to chinaviews@asiasociety.org.

Next Steps:
Finalists will be invited to develop their proposals into full essays (1,500–2,000 words) with editorial guidance from CCA Fellows. Selected essays will be published on the Asia Society website, and authors will be invited to participate in an online discussion event upon the volume’s release.
