About the Organisation
The Institute for Law & AI (LawAI) is an independent think tank researching and advising on the legal challenges posed by artificial intelligence. LawAI works at the intersection of AI, law, and policy, engaging with governments, international organisations, public institutions, and private actors to ensure that AI advances promote security, welfare, and the rule of law.
About the Fellowship
The Winter Research Fellowship (Legal Frontiers) is a paid program designed to support law students, professionals, and academics in advancing research on AI, law, and policy. Fellows will work closely with mentors to develop tailored research projects, contribute to LawAI’s ongoing initiatives, and engage with policymakers and experts. The fellowship runs from January 26, 2026 to May 8, 2026 (with flexibility for an 8-week minimum commitment).
Eligibility

Open to law students (LLB, LLM, JD, PhD), academics, and professionals from diverse fields such as law, public policy, economics, computer science, history, and more.

No prior AI-specific research experience required.

Strong interest in AI law and policy, with ability to commit full-time for at least 8 consecutive weeks.

Weekly compensation ($1,500 in the US / €1,000 in the EU; additional €1,000 weekly for in-person work at Cambridge).
