The United States Program of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is inviting applications for the position of Senior Researcher on Immigrants’ Rights in the United States. The role focuses on researching and monitoring human rights abuses impacting immigrants due to federal, state, and local policies, and advocating for reforms to ensure racial justice, equity, and protection of immigrant communities.

Eligibility

  • US law degree or advanced degree in immigration law/policy, journalism, or related field.

  • Minimum 7 years’ relevant work experience in immigration or criminal law practice, research, documentation, or policy advocacy.

  • Strong knowledge of US immigration laws and policies; familiarity with human rights and refugee law.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish (additional languages desirable).

  • Prior experience combatting structural barriers affecting immigrants and racial justice issues.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Research and document abuses faced by immigrants in the US.

  • Conduct trauma-informed interviews and analyze data from diverse sources.

  • Write reports, advocacy papers, op-eds, and submissions for legal and policy reform.

  • Monitor legal and policy developments and design advocacy strategies.

  • Represent HRW in media, coalitions, and advocacy forums.

  • Travel within the US and internationally for research and advocacy.

Compensation

  • Salary range: USD 88,000 – 96,000
