About:
The Centre for Economic Performance (CEP) at the London School of Economics is inviting applications for a Research Assistant (Pre-Doctoral) position within its Education and Skills Programme. This one-year role offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research on youth criminal justice and education policy in England, under the guidance of Dr Rui Costa, Dr Nikhil Datta, and Dr Matteo Sandi.

Eligibility:
Applicants must hold:

  • An undergraduate degree in Economics or another quantitative discipline, and

  • A Master’s degree in Economics or related quantitative field, qualifying for PhD-level entry (to be completed by the start date).
    Additional requirements:

  • Proficiency in Stata or similar software for large-scale data analysis.

  • Eligibility to work with the DfE-MoJ linked administrative dataset in a secure UK data environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    Residency in the UK is mandatory.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Support the project ‘Diversion and Structural Change in the Youth Criminal Justice System’, funded by the Youth Endowment Fund.

  • Work on associated projects examining the intersection of education and criminal justice.

  • Analyse large datasets, contribute to research design, and assist in drafting publications and policy briefs.
