About:
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is seeking a Principal, Principal Counsel to provide expert legal and policy advice across its operations. This role involves supporting client departments, drafting and reviewing legal documents, representing the Bank in administrative proceedings, and contributing to policy development. The position is based in London and offers a hybrid work environment with a diverse and international team.
Eligibility:

Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in an international or transnational legal environment.

University law degree plus post-graduate law degree or equivalent professional legal experience.

Admission/qualification to practice law in at least one jurisdiction preferred.

Strong understanding of international organizations’ legal frameworks; experience in international administrative law is advantageous.

Excellent command of English; knowledge of additional languages relevant to EBRD operations is a plus.
Roles and Responsibilities:

Provide legal assistance on new and ongoing matters, including court proceedings, arbitration, and internal EBRD tribunals.

Draft, review, and negotiate legal documentation and policy frameworks.

Represent the Bank before internal tribunals and committees as required.

Supervise external law firms and manage internal legal resources efficiently.

Conduct research, prepare legal memos, and contribute to knowledge management and policy development.

Mentor junior legal staff and interns.
