About the Role:
Microsoft’s Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs (CELA) department is seeking an experienced Principal Corporate Counsel to join its Compliance & Ethics (C&E) – Business Regulatory Investigations (BRI) team in the Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) region. This role focuses on internal investigations, legal compliance, and risk mitigation, with a particular emphasis on operations in Africa. The position is based in London with a hybrid schedule (3 days in-office).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and conduct internal compliance investigations in accordance with Microsoft’s BRI framework.

  • Collaborate with regional teams (CELA, HR, Finance, and Compliance) to identify, assess, and address legal and compliance risks.

  • Act as a subject matter expert on compliance, particularly under the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and other global anti-corruption frameworks.

  • Advise business units and employees on Microsoft policies and compliance procedures.

  • Support remediation planning and compliance control improvements.

  • Contribute to strengthening Microsoft’s compliance culture and risk management systems across EMEA.

  • Engage in regional travel as needed for investigations and stakeholder coordination.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or international equivalent in law, with an active license to practice in the UK.

  • Extensive experience as a practicing attorney handling corporate/internal or government investigations.

  • Proven ability to exercise sound legal judgment in complex, high-stakes environments.

  • Strong analytical and communication skills for conveying investigation findings and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with compliance investigations in Africa.

  • Deep understanding of compliance frameworks, corporate governance, and international business law.

  • Familiarity with employment, privacy, and data protection laws as they relate to internal investigations.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work across diverse cultures and global teams.

  • Commitment to continuous professional growth, innovation, and ethical leadership.
