About:
Dr. Abdul Wahid Gulrani, Assistant Professor of Sociology, is seeking two Afghan female research assistants to support an ongoing project titled “Internet Shutdowns as a Tool of Gender Repression: Economic, Educational, and Psychological Impacts on Afghan Women and Girls.”
The project, approved by The George Washington University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB), examines how internet shutdowns in Afghanistan function as mechanisms of gender repression and their broader socio-economic and psychological impacts.
Eligibility:

Female candidates of Afghan origin based in the DC–Maryland–Virginia (DMV) area.

Bachelor’s degree required; prior research experience preferred.

Proficiency in Persian and English (knowledge of Pashto is an advantage).

Demonstrated skills in quantitative and qualitative research, including:

Statistical data entry and analysis

Conducting individual interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs)

Familiarity with SPSS or R for statistical analysis

Roles and Responsibilities:
Selected research assistants will contribute to:

Data collection, analysis, and interpretation

Conducting interviews and FGDs with affected women and communities
-
Assisting with academic writing, literature review, and project coordination
