About the Workshop
The Academy for European Human Rights Protection (University of Cologne) is organising a hybrid workshop on Writing and Publishing in the Law of the ECHR and Other International Human Rights Systems on 15–16 December 2025. The workshop aims to support early-career researchers in enhancing their writing and publishing strategies, while also offering a platform for discussion and exchange on the challenges facing human rights systems globally.
Eligibility
Early-career researchers (broadly understood) working on human rights law, fundamental rights, or related disciplines such as philosophy, history, political science, sociology, or anthropology are invited to apply. Applicants may focus on a single human rights system or adopt comparative/critical approaches.
Workshop Objectives and Benefits

Explore effective strategies for publishing in leading journals and book series.

Engage critically with comparative perspectives in international human rights law.

Present and discuss works-in-progress in small groups (optional).

Network with peers and senior scholars, creating a sustained forum for scholarly exchange.
How to Apply
Applicants must submit the following as a single Word/PDF file to publishing-humanrights@uni-koeln.de by 12 October 2025 (extended deadline):

CV (max. 2 pages, including publications if applicable).

Letter of motivation (max. 300 words).

Indication of in-person or online participation.

Optional: Abstract of work-in-progress for feedback (max. 500 words).
Selected participants will be notified by end of October 2025. There is no participation fee. Travel and accommodation expenses for in-person participation must be self-funded.
