Opportunity: Military Law Research Associate – Indian Army Litigation Wing

The Litigation Wing of the Indian Army is inviting applications from Indian nationals for the position of Military Law Research Associate on a contractual basis. This is a unique opportunity for aspiring legal professionals to work closely with service law and administrative litigation, while gaining valuable, hands-on experience with the armed forces.


Eligibility Criteria

Essential Qualifications:

  • LL.B. with at least 55% aggregate marks from a Bar Council of India-recognised institution

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an Advocate/Research Associate/Legal Assistant in a court, government office, reputed law firm, or under a senior advocate

  • Must have cleared the All India Bar Examination (AIBE)

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate degree in law

  • Strong research and analytical skills

  • Proficiency in legal databases (e.g. SCC Online, Manupatra, Westlaw)

  • Working knowledge of MS Office and general computer operations

Disqualifications:

  • Simultaneous engagement elsewhere

  • Involvement in criminal proceedings or named in FIRs

  • Facing disciplinary action from any legal or professional body

Total of 26 vacancies across India:

  • New Delhi – 11

  • Chandigarh – 4

  • Lucknow – 4

  • Chennai, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Kochi, Mumbai – 1 each


Honorarium

  • ₹50,000 per month

  • No TA/DA, accommodation or additional allowances provided


Key Terms & Conditions

  • Initial engagement for 6 months, extendable based on need and performance

  • Not an offer of employment or guarantee of future employment with the Army or Ministry of Defence

  • Full-time, on-site engagement only — no parallel jobs or academic pursuits allowed without permission

  • Office hours as per location; may require work on weekends or holidays as needed

  • 15 days of leave permitted with prior approval

  • Strict adherence to confidentiality protocols, cyber security, and dress code

  • Formal dress code required; black trousers, white shirt, tie, black coat & formal shoes for men; women may also wear black/white salwar suits or sarees

  • Immediate termination for breach of terms or misconduct

  • Must sign Non-Disclosure Agreement before starting

    1. Preliminary Screening

    2. Virtual Interview coordinated by the respective Legal Cells
