MARWADI UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF LAW SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDES FIRST-EVER PAN-INDIA VIRTUAL MOOT COURT COMPETITION

The Faculty of Law at Marwadi University (MU), recently hosted and successfully concluded the first of its kind Virtual National Moot Court Competition. Over 42 teams participated from across the country, which included teams from prestigious institutions such as the Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University (DSNLU), Lucknow University, The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Mahatma Gandhi University School of Indian Legal Thought, Bharti Vidyapeeth, NMIMSand Amity, Dubai, among other noteworthy institutions participating at the competition. Hon’ble Justice P P Bhatt, President, Income Tax Appellate Tribunal & Senior Judge, High Court of Gujarat, graced the occasion as the Chief-guest.

The team representing the Faculty of Law, Lucknow University emerged as the winners, comprising of Ms. Pratibha Khatri, Mr. Gaurav Chawla, and Ms. Arzu Nayab. The team of the School of Excellence in Law, Chennai, stood as the Runners-up. The key objective behind initiating a moot court competition exclusively for first-year students was to familiarize them with mooting skills right at the beginning of law school.

Mr. Jeet Marwadi, Trustee, Marwadi University, during the valedictory speech, said, “Marwadi University is always looking forward to providing a platform to the students which enhances their practical skills and expands their perspectives. The Moot court Competition is one more step in the direction of empowering first-year law students, to transform themselves into successful and effective future lawyers”.

The inaugural session was presided over by Prof. (Dr) Sandeep Sancheti, Provost, Marwadi University. The Guest of Honour for the Session was Mr Naresh Jadeja, Registrar, Marwadi University. Prof. (Dr) Rhishikesh Dave, Dean, Faculty of Law, Marwadi University delivered the welcome address. The Final Round, which was judged by renowned senior members of the fraternity included, Hon’ble Justice, Ravi Tripathi; Senior Advocate, Mr. Prakash Thakkar; Mr. Vyapak Desai, Senior Partner Nishith Desai Associates; Mr. M Arun Kumar, Partner, IndusLaw; Mr. Tejas Karia, Senior Partner, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas; and Mr. Shubrarag Mukherjee, Senior Counsel, Hewlett Packard.

The three-day programme concluded with the Valedictory Session in the august presence of the Chief Guest Hon’ble Dr Justice Vineet Kothari, who is at present the Senior Most Judge of the High Court of Gujarat. He shared his views regarding the significance of knowledge and its expansion in the present-day world, elaborating that it brings about pertinent and lasting changes to society. He added that a scientific approach to Law makes the nature of Law progressive and relevant.

Mr. Ketan Marwadi, Founder & Chairman, Marwadi University, and Mr. Jitubhai Chandarana, Co-founder & Vice-Chairman, Marwadi University, applauded the superb teamwork of the Faculty of Law students and educators and added that such initiatives breed global perspectives and aid students to gain an edge in the legal ecosystem of India.
