About the CPA Project
The CPA Project is a litigation and research-driven advocacy initiative based in Bhopal, dedicated to challenging the systemic criminalization of oppressed caste communities, particularly Denotified Tribes (DNTs). The project adopts an anti-caste and anti-carceral approach, addressing the colonial roots of policing that prioritize incarceration over care.
Through pre-trial, trial, and strategic litigation across Madhya Pradesh, CPA works to dismantle discriminatory policing practices targeting marginalized communities.
Position: Litigation Associate
The Litigation Associate will play a key role in developing CPA’s trial and High Court litigation practice while contributing to the organization’s strategic litigation efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Litigation:
- Work with the Litigation Coordinator and team on criminal defense cases across Madhya Pradesh.
- Represent CPA in judicial forums in Bhopal and other parts of the state.
- Conduct legal research, drafting, and case preparation.
- Provide pre-trial support for accused persons in police stations.
- Engage with criminalized communities in Bhopal, addressing their legal needs.
- Maintain direct communication with clients, ensuring timely updates and support.
- Organize case files and manage litigation documentation.
- Collaborate with advocacy and research teams on strategic litigation initiatives.
- Participate in legal training sessions and workshops to enhance expertise.
Organizational Contributions:
- Promote an anti-caste, ethical work environment within CPA.
- Engage in advocacy, networking, and team-building activities.
- Support donor engagement through regular updates and reports.
Eligibility Criteria
- Law graduate enrolled with the Bar Council of India.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in criminal trial litigation.
- Familiarity with Madhya Pradesh’s legal landscape and social justice issues is a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in Hindi and English.
Remuneration
INR 50,000 per month (inclusive of 10% TDS).
