Checkatrade is inviting applications for the position of Legal Analyst, Data Privacy. As the organisation continues to scale its digital infrastructure and product ecosystem, the Legal Analyst will play a central role in safeguarding data, supporting compliance and enabling responsible growth.

The Legal Analyst will therefore join a team focused on data privacy, product governance and risk management to ensure that all operations align with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and broader regulatory expectations.

Role Overview

The position goes far beyond routine checklists. It involves supporting privacy review processes across new features, technologies and internal initiatives, and helping embed privacy-by-design across product and engineering teams. You will run and document privacy assessments, maintain core compliance processes, draft privacy guidance, support incident response and review data protection terms in commercial contracts. You will also contribute to responsible AI documentation and analyse the implications of emerging regulatory developments.

Key Responsibilities

Candidates selected for this role will engage in the following activities:

• Supporting privacy reviews across new features, product enhancements, technologies and internal operational changes.
• Running DPIAs, TIAs, LIAs and similar assessments, and maintaining thorough documentation of privacy risks.
• Managing internal privacy processes including incident response workflows, data retention schedules and policy upkeep.
• Drafting and updating privacy notices, templates, internal guidance materials and operational playbooks.
• Reviewing data protection terms in contracts including data processing addenda and standard contractual clauses.
• Managing data subject rights requests and acting as an escalation point for queries handled by the SAR team.
• Supporting triage and documentation of privacy or security incidents and assisting with risk assessments and follow-up actions.
• Monitoring regulatory developments and distilling their business implications for internal stakeholders.
• Supporting privacy-by-design efforts within the product and engineering ecosystem.
• Assisting with documentation relating to AI governance and privacy considerations arising from AI adoption.

Candidate Profile

Checkatrade is looking for individuals who bring intellectual curiosity, clarity in writing and structured thinking. The ideal applicant will have:

• Experience as a paralegal or legal analyst in-house or at a law firm.
• Working knowledge of UK GDPR, DPA 2018 and PECR.
• Strong analytical ability to identify risks and ask precise questions.
• Clear and concise writing skills with a pragmatic communication style.
• Capacity to manage deadlines, organise tasks and handle competing priorities.
• A broad understanding of data flows, marketplaces and digital product operations.
• Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to move matters forward independently.
• Willingness to use technology, including AI tools, to enhance efficiency.
• A desire to grow into a Legal Counsel role over time.
