About the Opportunity

Rashtriya Raksha University’s Centre for International Law is inviting applications for its Research Assistant/Internship programme for the 77th Session of the UN International Law Commission (ILC), under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Bimal N. Patel.
This initiative aims to strengthen participation from the Global South in shaping the development of international law. The engagement is part-time, remote, and open to students, scholars, and professionals interested in contributing high-quality research towards ongoing ILC agenda items. Selected candidates may also have an opportunity to observe UN proceedings in Geneva on a self-funded basis.

Eligibility

  • Open to students, researchers, faculty members, and experts with a demonstrated interest in Public International Law.

  • Applicants must possess a solid understanding of the ILC’s functioning, working methods, and current agenda.

  • Multilingual candidates proficient in English and other UN languages are encouraged to apply.

  • Candidates must be capable of analysing complex legal issues, interpreting state practice, reviewing Sixth Committee debates, and producing research inputs within strict timelines.

  • Commitment to academic integrity is mandatory; unethical or AI-generated work is not accepted.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on topics currently under consideration by the UN International Law Commission.

  • Prepare analytical inputs based on state practice, UN documentation, scholarly commentary, and ILC reports.

  • Work independently and as part of a team on tasks assigned by the Centre for International Law.

  • Contribute to other agenda items of the Centre during the tenure.

  • Selected candidates present in Geneva may apply for the Prof. Dr. Bimal N. Patel Scholarship Fund (up to USD 1000) supporting international law studies.
