About:
The Law Commission of India, under the Ministry of Law and Justice, has announced its Voluntary Internship Scheme 2025, effective from 1st July 2025. This internship offers undergraduate and postgraduate law students an invaluable opportunity to work closely with India’s apex legal reform body. Interns will gain first-hand experience in research, analysis, and drafting that directly contributes to the Commission’s work on legal reform, policy development, and modernization of the legal system.
This is an unpaid internship, intended purely for academic and professional exposure, and does not confer any right to future employment with the Commission.
Eligibility:

Open to law students who have completed at least two years of a five-year integrated law degree or one year of a three-year LL.B. programme from a recognised law college/university.

Each candidate may apply only once during a financial year.

Applicants must have strong academic credentials and a demonstrated interest in legal research.
Duration:
The internship will ordinarily last four weeks, with the possibility of extension up to eight weeks on the intern’s request, subject to approval by the Chairperson.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Interns will have the opportunity to:

Conduct legal research and analysis on existing and proposed legislations, judicial decisions, and Law Commission reports.

Assist in drafting research papers, consultation reports, and working documents.

Participate in seminars, consultations, and policy discussions organised by the Commission.

Compile and analyse case laws, statutes, comparative legal materials, and literature reviews.

Support Members, Research Officers, and the Chairperson in ongoing research projects.

Submit a short research paper or digital presentation at the conclusion of the internship.
Interns must maintain at least 75% attendance to qualify for the completion certificate. Any breach of confidentiality or misconduct will lead to immediate termination of the internship.
Workplace & Logistics:
Interns will ordinarily work at the Law Commission’s Office, Lok Nayak Bhavan, Khan Market, New Delhi, though hybrid or remote work may be permitted depending on circumstances. Interns must carry their own laptops and bear all personal expenses. They will have access to the Commission’s library, legal databases, and research facilities during their tenure.
