About the Faculty of Law

The Faculty of Law, HKU, is the oldest and largest law school in Hong Kong, playing a pivotal role in legal education across Hong Kong and Asia. The Faculty offers a wide spectrum of undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programmes and comprises more than 80 faculty members from 17+ jurisdictions, many of whom are internationally recognised scholars.

About the Role

Applications are invited for the position of Research Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Law, to commence on 31 May 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The appointment will be on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.

The Faculty welcomes applications from outstanding candidates specialising in Competition Law. A demonstrated interest or expertise in digital economy and artificial intelligence (AI)-related legal issues is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

Produce high-quality, impactful research and contribute significantly to the Faculty’s research profile
Actively participate in academic and research communities
Teach and develop courses for undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes, including the Juris Doctor (JD) programme
Contribute to curriculum development in competition law and related areas
Support the overall academic mission of the Faculty through research, teaching, and service

Eligibility & Qualifications

First degree in Law (LLB, BA (Jurisprudence), JD or equivalent)
Additional postgraduate qualification in Law (LLM, PhD, DPhil, SJD preferred)

Applicants without a postgraduate law degree may also be considered if they demonstrate:

A strong publication record, and
Relevant experience in legal practice, teaching, judiciary, or
A postgraduate degree in a related non-law discipline

The appointment level (Assistant / Associate / Professor) will depend on qualifications and demonstrated academic standing.
