Why the Changes?
Due to a sharp rise in applications—reflected in a 3.3% success rate in 2025—the British Academy has introduced targeted updates to enhance programme sustainability and competitiveness.
Key Changes for the 2026 Round

Eligibility Window Reduced:

Now 0–5 years post-PhD (previously 0–7 years)

Career breaks and parental leave continue to be recognised

Applicants must hold a non-UK PhD

Candidates with UK PhDs should apply under the Postdoctoral Fellowships scheme

Each UK academic sponsor can support only one applicant per round
