The Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer Chair on Human Rights at the School of Legal Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kerala, is hosting the third edition of its online Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Human Rights. This esteemed program aims to help educators and aspiring scholars deepen their understanding of human rights and enhance their ability to teach and research the subject effectively.

Conducting such programs is crucial for equipping faculty members with the knowledge and tools necessary to teach and research human rights efficiently. By participating, faculty members not only broaden their own understanding but also gain insights into how to deliver meaningful human rights education to students, fostering a culture of respect, empathy, and social responsibility within institutions.

The program is designed to promote awareness about human rights, particularly among students and educators, and to encourage a compassionate approach across all areas of life. The Chair engages in a variety of outreach programs, seminars, and workshops on critical issues such as healthcare rights, patients’ rights, privacy, and socio-economic rights. It also conducts training sessions and faculty development programs for educators to help address widespread human rights violations and implement preventive measures.

Justice K. M. Joseph, the former Supreme Court judge, has taken on the role of Chair Professor in March 2025. His leadership is expected to further the Chair’s efforts to advance human rights-centered legal principles and raise awareness about human rights protection.
