About the Organisers

The Department Historical Regimes of Normativity (Prof. Thomas Duve) is inviting applications for its prestigious Visitors’ Programme (2026/2027). The department is known for its cutting-edge research on the intersections of law, religion, morality, and social practices, with a strong focus on global perspectives.

Opportunity Details

  • Who can apply: PhD candidates, postdoctoral scholars, and senior researchers

  • Research Stay Duration: 3 or 6 months

  • Start Dates:

    • 1 April 2026

    • 1 July 2026

    • 1 October 2026

    • 4 January 2027

Research Themes

Applications are welcome in legal history with emphasis on:

  • Normative knowledge shaped by religion, morality, everyday practices, and diverse actors

  • Perspectives from global history, translation studies, history of knowledge, moral theology, or art history

  • Engagement with epistemic communities such as the School of Salamanca

  • Projects focusing on Iberian, Ibero-Asian, and Luso-African contexts are especially encouraged

Expectations

  • Scholarship holders will carry out their own independent research

  • They will also contribute to the department’s blog: Legal History Insights
