The Human Rights Blog, JGLS under the aegis of the Human Rights Society (HRS) of Jindal Global Law School is pleased to announce its call for rolling submissions.
The HRS Blog is a student-edited Blog that aims to initiate discussion on social forums that will help us in moving a step towards the development of substantive equality. We have established a space where students, academicians as well as practitioners of law can voice and share their informed opinions about human rights and its violations. This initiative has been established under the guidance of our exemplary Advisory Board comprising Professor Ajita Sharma, Peter John and Rachana Mudraboyina.
The HRS welcomes submissions for case commentaries, issue briefs, research articles, opinion pieces, fictional narratives and book/film reviews to engage in dialogue over vital issues pertaining to peace, conflict and human rights crisis.
Categories for Submission:
· Case Commentaries- The word limit for this category shall be 500-1000 words.
· Issue Briefs- The word limit for this category should be typically 1500- 2000 words.
· Research Articles- The word limit for this category shall be 1500-2000 words.
· Book/Film Reviews- The word limit for this category shall be 500-1000 words.
· Opinion Pieces- The word limit for this category shall be 1000-1200 words.
· Fictional narratives- The word limit for this category shall be 500-1000 words
Note: The word limit may be flexible depending on the quality of the submission.
General Guidelines:
· The nature of submissions may be analytical or descriptive. However, it is strongly advised that the nature of submission be of an analytical nature.
· The submission should be in Garamond Font only.
· The main text should be in font size 12 and endnotes in font size 10.
· All paragraphs must begin with a 0.5-inch indent and the text should be double spaced and justified.
· The author should ensure that there are no page borders, page numbers, designs and nothing is mentioned on headers and footers.
· Co-Authorship is allowed to a maximum of 2 authors.
Citations:
· All references to sources must only be as hyperlinks. However, sources which cannot be found online should be referenced as endnotes in Bluebook format, 20th Edition.
· All hyperlinks must be underlined and in black. Quotes, if used verbatim, should be in inverted commas and in italics.
· Speaking endnotes are not allowed.
· A maximum of 32 percent of the piece can be hyperlinked/included in endnotes. Plagiarism exceeding the prescribed limit shall not be considered for publication.
Keywords:
· The authors are advised to accompany each piece with two-three keywords.
· The keywords would be the ones which help segregating the focus area within the human rights framework. For instance, if the topic of the paper is Rohingya Refugee Crisis in Myanmar, the keywords could be- the Myanmar refugee crisis, international human rights, international refugee law and protection, etc.
Mode of submission:
· Each submission must be accompanied by a 100-200 word abstract.
· The submission must be via Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format only.
· The name of the word file has to be the title of the manuscript.
· The manuscript must not contain the name of the authors or any other details relating to their identity.
· The author(s) are requested to provide a short bio of themselves in the email body only.
· All script submissions along with their abstracts should be made to hrs.jgu.submissions@outlook.com
Copyright:
· Submissions are accepted for publication on the condition that they do not infringe the copyright or any other rights of any third parties and that the work does not contain any obscene, offensive, defamatory, or racially prejudiced material.
· All submissions would undergo rigorous plagiarism checks. In the event that the manuscript suffers from excess plagiarism, it will be automatically be rejected.
· Final acceptance of a manuscript for publication is contingent on the incorporation of such suggestions to the satisfaction of the Board of Editors.
· A declaration in the body of the e-mail affirming the originality of the piece- “I certify that the given article is original in its content and does not violate any copyright of any author. I also certify that this article has not been submitted for publication into some other blog/newspaper or any other publication platform.
· Once the article is published on the blog, the author(s) transfer the copyright to the Blog.
· Cross-posting of the article may be allowed. However, prior consent of the Blog needs to be obtained, failing which, the manuscript cannot be cross-posted anywhere.
Timelines:
· The HRS Blog strives to ensure a speedy and efficient review process.
· The Editorial Team may take upto 7 days to respond to submissions.
· In the event of changes required to be made by the author, sufficient time will be given, failing which, the manuscript may get rejected.
· Once accepted, the submission shall be published within 3 days of acceptance. In case of articles on very recent developments which may lose novelty or relevance within days, authors may request an expedited review by adding the words “Urgent” in the subject line. Such articles shall be reviewed within 3 days. Such exception shall be granted at the discretion of the Editorial Board.
