About Faculty of Law, AMUÂ
Established in 1883 at M.A.O. College, the Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University, is one of the oldest law schools in India. It became a full-fledged Faculty in 1960 under its first Dean, Prof. (Dr.) Hafeezul Rahman. For over a century, the Faculty has played a significant role in nation-building and legal academia.
It has produced eminent jurists and public figures, including former Judges of the Supreme Court of India — Justice Baharul Islam, Justice Murtaza Fazal Ali, and Justice R.P. Sethi — along with distinguished academicians such as Padma Bhushan Prof. N.R. Madhava Menon, Prof. Tahir Mahmood, and Prof. Faizan Mustafa.
Recognized for its academic excellence, the Faculty was ranked 2nd among Indian law institutions in 2017 and secured 9th position in NIRF 2025. With its rich legacy and strong academic foundation, the Faculty provides a dynamic platform for national-level moot court competitions.
About the Competition
The Competition is conceived as a national platform to engage law students with contemporary issues in Criminal Law while strengthening skills in research, memorial drafting, and oral advocacy. It will commence with Online Preliminary Rounds, where each team will argue once as Petitioner and once as Respondent, followed by the Quarter-Final, Semi-Final, and Final Rounds to be conducted on campus. The results of each round will be announced after the conclusion of that round.
Open to students enrolled in three-year and five-year LL.B. programmes across India, the Competition follows a structured format with anonymised evaluation and strict adherence to professional courtroom decorum. Through memorial drafting and oral advocacy, it seeks to foster analytical precision, ethical professionalism, and a spirit of constructive legal engagement among aspiring members of the Bar.
