About the Conference
The Socio-Legal Studies Association (SLSA) Annual Conference 2026 will be held from Monday, 30 March to Wednesday, 1 April 2026, at the University of Sussex campus in Falmer, Brighton. The conference provides a vibrant platform for interdisciplinary dialogue among scholars, practitioners, and policymakers engaging with the intersections of law and society.
About the Stream
The Social Rights, Citizenship and the Welfare State stream invites paper proposals addressing the evolving dynamics of welfare states, justice, and citizenship in both national and comparative contexts. The stream particularly welcomes submissions exploring:

Recognition and enforcement of social rights

Challenges and reforms in welfare systems

Theoretical debates around social welfare, justice, austerity, and conditionality

Comparative or supranational perspectives on social citizenship and devolution

Law and social justice through frameworks of empowerment, care, and participation
Submissions adopting creative research methods or practitioner-oriented perspectives are especially encouraged.
