Submissions are invited for the Queering Private Law Conference, to be held at UCL Laws as part of the UCL200 Bentham House Conference series.
The conference invites papers that examine private law (broadly defined) through the lens of queer theory and LGBTQI+ rights, engaging critically with how private law structures impact gender, sexuality, and normativity.
Conference Rationale
As noted by Dr. Haim Abraham (UCL Laws), one of the conference co-leads:
Examining private law through a queer lens is now more pertinent and essential than ever. In light of the global regression in LGBTQI+ protections, private law may be one of the most accessible and effective tools for advancing and safeguarding LGBTQI+ rights. While our understanding of gender and sexuality has evolved, private law often lags behind. A queer analysis helps identify how private law may unintentionally perpetuate discrimination or disadvantage based on normativity, gender, or sexuality.
