About the Seminar

The International Seminar on “Climate Justice in a Warming World: Evolving Paradigms in Law, Action, and Technology” is a collaborative initiative by VBCL, CEERA-NLSIU, and KLA, Thiruvananthapuram. The seminar seeks to shed light on the escalating climate crisis and its global implications, while focusing on pathways to justice, equity, and sustainability.

Climate change has drastically impacted the ecological and biological balance of the planet, exacerbating social, economic, legal, and cultural inequalities. Marginalized populations—including tribals, indigenous peoples, and forest dwellers—are disproportionately affected due to resource depletion, food and water insecurity, and systemic exclusion.

The right to a clean environment and a right against climate change are now recognized as distinct yet interconnected human rights. As emphasized by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, addressing the growing effects of climate change warrants distinct legal protections.

In this context, the seminar aspires to create a collaborative platform for legal scholars, researchers, technologists, activists, and other stakeholders to engage in forward-thinking discussions on climate action, rights-based frameworks, and innovative legal-technological solutions.
