About the Book / Theme
This edited volume seeks to explore the multifaceted phenomenon of Global Bollywood and its intersection with contemporary cultural, political, and media landscapes. Bollywood, as India’s largest film industry, has long been a site of cultural production, global circulation, and representation politics. With the rise of streaming platforms, transnational audiences, and digital media, questions of cultural appropriation, identity, and representation have become increasingly critical.
The book aims to examine:
-
How Bollywood content is adapted, remixed, or appropriated in global contexts
-
The impact of streaming media platforms on cultural dissemination and audience reception
-
The politics of representation, including issues of race, gender, caste, ethnicity, and diaspora identities
-
The negotiation between local authenticity and global appeal
-
Critical engagements with ethics, aesthetics, and the economics of cultural production
This collection encourages interdisciplinary perspectives from fields such as Film Studies, Media Studies, Cultural Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, and Communication Studies.
