
The Centre for Advanced Research and Training in Arbitration Law (CARTAL), National Law University, Jodhpur, in association with the Indian Journal of Arbitration Law (IJAL), invites submissions for the 9th Gary B. Born Essay Competition on International Arbitration, 2026.
Organised with the support and patronage of Prof. Gary B. Born, Chair of the International Arbitration Practice Group at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, the competition has emerged as a leading global platform for students to engage with complex and evolving issues in international arbitration.
About the Competition
The Essay Competition provides an opportunity for students worldwide to contribute to cutting-edge scholarship in international arbitration and engage with contemporary legal challenges shaping the field.
Themes
Participants may submit essays on any one of the following themes:
• The Reconfiguration of Party Autonomy in International Arbitration
• Examining the Scope of Interim Reliefs in Arbitral Proceedings
• Arbitrability of Public–Private Partnership Disputes
Eligibility
• Open to undergraduate and postgraduate law students worldwide
