Chambers of Eshna Kumar is inviting applications for the position of Legal Associate to join its litigation team, with a focused practice in matters under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.
This role is intended for litigation lawyers who are hands-on, court-confident, and experienced in end-to-end handling of cheque bounce matters, and who are looking to grow within a fast-paced litigation practice.
Role Overview
The selected Associate will independently handle cheque dishonour matters, from inception to final disposal, and will be expected to take ownership of assigned cases.
Key Responsibilities
• Independently draft legal notices, complaints, affidavits, and related pleadings under Section 138 NI Act
• Conduct legal research and develop case strategies
• Appear before Magistrate Courts and handle all stages of proceedings, including:
– Pre-summoning and post-summoning stages
– Leading evidence and conducting cross-examinations
– Final arguments and disposal
• Liaise with clients and provide regular updates on case progress
• Maintain detailed case records, hearing schedules, and documentation
• Coordinate with court clerks, process servers, and other stakeholders
Key Requirements
• LL.B. degree from a recognised university and enrollment with a Bar Council
• 1–3 years of relevant litigation experience, particularly in cheque bounce matters
• Strong drafting, research, and communication skills
• Confidence in court appearances and cross-examinations
• Ability to manage multiple matters and adhere to deadlines
• Proficiency in English and relevant regional language(s), as required
