About the Opportunity
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is inviting applications for its Associate Programme (Banking Operations group) under the Office of the General Counsel (OGC).
EBRD is looking to recruit five lawyers to join the programme in London, commencing in August/September 2026. This prestigious programme is designed for young lawyers from EBRD member countries who are eager to contribute to impactful legal and development-focused projects across EBRD’s regions of operation.
Role Overview
EBRD’s OGC plays a central role in supporting the Bank’s mandate to build sustainable and open market economies across Central & Eastern Europe, the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean, Central Asia, and emerging regions including Sub-Saharan Africa.
The selected Associates will join the Banking Operations group, which handles the legal aspects of EBRD’s lending and investment transactions.
Key Responsibilities
Associates will be involved in:

Legal support for lending and investment operations

Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal documentation

Conducting legal research across multiple jurisdictions

Supporting institutional, administrative, and policy-related legal work

Contributing country, language, and academic expertise to EBRD operations
Eligibility & Qualifications
Candidates should have:

A law degree (postgraduate degree preferred)
-
3–5 years of legal work experience (private practice or in-house)
-
Experience in lending, investment, banking, or transactional legal work

Legal exposure in EBRD regions (preferred)
-
Excellent command of English (written and spoken)
-
Fluency in Arabic, French, Russian, or Ukrainian (an advantage)

Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills
-
A genuine interest in international development
