Internship Opportunity at The Commonwealth Secretariat – Legal Intern (6 Months, London)

About the Organisation

The Commonwealth Secretariat is the principal intergovernmental body of the Commonwealth, representing 56 member countries and working to support democratic governance, sustainable development, and international cooperation.
The Legal Counsel’s Office, located within the Secretary-General’s Office, advises the Secretary-General, Senior Management Committee, and Governing Boards on legal and institutional matters. Its work spans international organisations law, international administrative law, and the domestic laws of the UK and other Commonwealth jurisdictions.

Eligibility

Age: 20–30 years
Completed a law degree from a recognised university
Postgraduate degree (completed or ongoing) in a relevant legal field is desirable
Demonstrable experience in legal research and document review
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Strong IT skills and high attention to detail
Must be a citizen of a Commonwealth member country
Must have the right to live and work in the UK for the full duration of the internship

Roles and Responsibilities

Conduct legal research across international, public, private and administrative law
Assist in drafting and reviewing contracts, confidentiality agreements, MoUs and other legal documents
Prepare chronologies, indices, and legal bundles
Develop internal process workflows, policies, and procedural documents
Support the Legal Counsel’s Office in preparation for meetings and official activities
Assist with administrative and organisational tasks as required
