About the RBI Summer Internship Programme:
The Reserve Bank of India offers one of the most competitive and prestigious summer internships in the country for students pursuing postgraduate programmes, integrated five-year courses, or professional law degrees. The RBI Summer Internship 2026 is designed to give students hands-on exposure to the functioning of India’s central bank.
Interns work directly with RBI officers on assignments related to research, data analysis, legal reviews, departmental operations, and policy studies. The programme provides a short-term but intensive understanding of how key departments of the RBI operate.

Eligibility Criteria:
Students must fulfil all requirements to be considered:

  • Students must be pursuing a post-graduate degree, an integrated five-year course, or a three-year full-time professional bachelor’s degree in Law.

  • Only students from recognised Indian institutions or universities are eligible.

  • Eligible fields include Management, Statistics, Law, Commerce, Economics, Econometrics, Banking, or Finance.

  • Applicants must be in the penultimate year of their programme (the second-last year).
    Students who do not meet these requirements are not eligible to apply.

Duration, Stipend and Internship Location:
The RBI Summer Internship is conducted during the summer months, and selected students must be available for the full duration.

  • Duration: Up to three months, scheduled between April and July 2026. The duration may be adjusted by RBI depending on departmental needs.

  • Stipend: ₹20,000 per month for the entire period.

  • Travel Support: Outstation interns receive AC II-tier return rail fare reimbursement between their institute location and their allotted RBI office.

  • Location: Interns must complete the internship at the RBI office corresponding to the state where their college or institution is located.

Application Process:
The application process is online only, and no other mode of submission is accepted.

  2. Enter personal details, academic information, contact details and the state in which your institution is located.

  3. Select the correct Control Office, which determines the RBI office you will be considered for.

  4. Upload the required documents, including photograph, signature, and a bonafide/authorisation letter from your college.

  5. Submit the form online. Once submitted, the application cannot be edited.
    Only applications submitted during the official window will be taken into account.

Selection Process:
The selection process for RBI Summer Internship 2026 is competitive and merit-based:

  • Shortlisting: RBI reviews all online submissions and checks eligibility along with academic performance and subject relevance.

  • Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for an interview at the RBI office associated with their Control Office. Interviews are typically held between January and February.

  • Final Selection: Successful candidates are informed between February and March 2026.

  • Travel for Interview: Shortlisted outstation candidates must bear their own travel costs for the interview. However, selected outstation interns receive travel reimbursement when joining the internship.
    A maximum of 125 students are selected each year across all eligible fields.

Work Areas During the Internship:
The nature of work depends on the department to which a student is assigned. Interns may be involved in:

  • Research Tasks: Collecting information, supporting ongoing departmental studies and preparing short notes.

  • Data-Related Work: Organising datasets, verifying figures or preparing data summaries.

  • Document Review: Reviewing legal or departmental material under supervision, especially for law students.

  • Departmental Assistance: Supporting routine tasks, drafting small sections of documents and assisting in coordination work.
    Work is supervised directly by RBI officers, who guide interns throughout the assignment.

  • Final Results: February – March 2026

  • Internship Duration: April – July 2026
