About the Workshop

The Legal Aid Clinic, Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla, is organizing an insightful webinar on “Financial Frauds & Digital Arrest: Legal Insights and Safeguards” in collaboration with the Vidhi Vimarsh Initiative.

This session aims to:

  • Create awareness about the growing menace of financial frauds and online scams.
  • Explain the concept of “digital arrests” and the misuse of law enforcement imagery in cyber fraud.
  • Provide participants with an understanding of relevant legal provisions and remedies under Indian laws.
  • Equip individuals with preventive strategies and digital literacy to protect themselves and their communities from such crimes.

Key Resource Persons

Through this discussion led by Mr. Varun Pathak, Partner at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. and alumnus of the London School of Economics, participants will gain valuable insights into the intersection of technology, finance, and law, ensuring they are better prepared to identify, prevent, and respond to cyber and financial offences.

About HPNLU Shimla

The Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla (HPNLU, Shimla) was established by the State Government in the year 2016, by an Act of the Legislature (Act 16 of 2016). The University started functioning on October 5, 2016. The University inducts students through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) for its Under-graduate [B.A.LL.B. and B.B.A.LL.B.-Hons. (Five-Year Integrated Course)] and the Post-graduate [One-year LL.M.]. The University also offers Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Post-Doctorate Programmes (LL.D.).

About the Legal Aid Clinic, HPNLU

The Legal Aid Clinic, Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla, is an initiative that embodies the constitutional mandate of ensuring access to justice for all. Established with the vision of nurturing socially responsible legal professionals, the Clinic serves as a bridge between the law and the community. It provides free legal assistance, advice, and awareness to those who are unable to afford legal services, thereby fulfilling the ideals of justice, equality, and service enshrined in Article 39A of the Constitution of India.

The Clinic operates under the aegis of the University’s Legal Services Committee and works in close collaboration with the Himachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority. It organises legal awareness camps, community outreach programs, and capacity-building sessions in rural and semi-urban areas. Through these initiatives, students gain experiential learning opportunities that enhance their understanding of law in action while fostering a deep sense of empathy and civic responsibility.

In its ongoing efforts, the Legal Aid Clinic continues to expand its reach by engaging in contemporary social justice issues, conducting research on access to justice, and collaborating with various governmental and non-governmental organisations. It aims to cultivate a generation of lawyers who not only excel in the courtroom but also work tirelessly for the empowerment of marginalised sections of society.
