The International Court of Justice (ICJ), the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, is inviting applications for the position of Head of the Department of Legal Matters / Principal Secretary of the Court (D1). This senior role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the functioning of the world’s highest court and support its mission of promoting the peaceful settlement of international disputes.
Eligibility:
- 
Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Law, preferably in Public International Law. 
- 
Extensive professional experience in international legal affairs, preferably within a judicial or intergovernmental setting. 
- 
Demonstrated leadership and management experience at a senior level. 
- 
Excellent command of English or French, with working knowledge of the other language desirable. 
Roles and Responsibilities:
- 
Oversee the work of the Department of Legal Matters, providing legal and procedural support to the Court. 
- 
Advise the President, Vice-President, and Judges on legal and administrative issues. 
- 
Coordinate the preparation of legal reports, research, and documentation related to the Court’s proceedings. 
- 
Represent the Court in its relations with external entities and at international meetings when required.
