Human Rights Watch is seeking a Crisis Researcher to join its team addressing urgent human rights issues in the United States. The role focuses on areas such as the new “war on drugs,” domestic military deployments, excessive use of force by law enforcement, immigration enforcement, and the dismantlement of oversight and accountability mechanisms.

Eligibility:

  • Strong understanding of US national security, domestic law, and executive powers.

  • Knowledge of international humanitarian law and human rights law.

  • Familiarity with the racial history of the US and its impact on policing and immigration enforcement.

  • Experience conducting human rights research and interviews, including in Spanish.

  • Excellent English writing and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment with diverse colleagues.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on pressing human rights issues and analyze legal and policy frameworks.

  • Prepare reports, briefings, and advocacy materials.

  • Conduct interviews and field investigations as required.

  • Collaborate with colleagues and external partners to support Human Rights Watch initiatives.
