About the Special Issue
The Austrian Journal of Historical Studies invites submissions for a special issue on Disability History, co-edited by Elisa Heinrich (Max Weber Fellow, European University Institute) and Monika Baár. This issue seeks to deepen interdisciplinary engagement with disability as a category of historical analysis, particularly in contemporary contexts where disability, gender, and queer studies are often challenged for their academic legitimacy.
Theme and Scope
The editors welcome papers that:
-
Examine the conceptualization of disability across various historical periods and European regions;
-
Engage with intersectional perspectives, connecting disability to gender, sexuality, race, class, and other social identities;
-
Situate European experiences of disability within a broader global or transnational context;
-
Offer critical reflections on the methodological and political implications of studying disability history.
Submission Details
Manuscripts are invited in English or German. Scholars from diverse disciplines and career stages are encouraged to contribute.
