Animal Law Reform South Africa (ALRSA) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing protections for animals, people, and the environment. For over eight years, ALRSA has been at the forefront of reforming industrialised food systems, advocating for ethical and sustainable practices, and improving legal safeguards for farmed animals in South Africa.
About the Role
We are seeking a committed and (com)passionate lawyer to join our team. The role will focus on food systems reform and farmed animal protection, combining legal expertise with a strong drive for social and environmental justice.
Eligibility
-
Qualified lawyer with strong legal research, drafting, and advocacy skills

Interest in animal law, food systems reform, or related fields

Commitment to social justice, sustainability, and ethical reform

Prior experience in public interest law or NGO work will be an advantage
Roles and Responsibilities

Conducting legal research and drafting reports, policy documents, and legal submissions

Engaging with stakeholders, policymakers, and communities on issues related to food systems and animal protection

Supporting litigation and advocacy efforts for systemic reform

Contributing to awareness-building initiatives on the link between animal welfare, human rights, and the environment
