Research Internship Opportunity at PRS Legislative Research (July 2025)

About PRS Legislative Research:
PRS Legislative Research (PRS) is a non-profit, independent research institution based in New Delhi, founded in September 2005 with the aim of strengthening the legislative process in India by making it more informed, transparent, and participatory. It provides high-quality legislative and policy analysis to Members of Parliament (MPs), enabling them to contribute more effectively in Parliament.

PRS was co-founded by C.V. Madhukar and M.R. Madhavan, who currently serves as its President. It was initially incubated at the Centre for Policy Research (CPR) and is now registered as the Institute for Policy Research Studies, a Section 8 non-profit company. The organisation is philanthropically funded by Indian donors and institutions.

About the Internship:
PRS is currently accepting applications for its offline research internship in July 2025, based out of New Delhi. This internship offers law and policy students the opportunity to gain exposure to India’s legislative processes and contribute meaningfully to parliamentary research.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Each MP in India represents over two million citizens and participates in the passage of around 60 Bills per year. Given the technical complexity and breadth of issues addressed in Parliament, MPs rely on research support to inform debates.

Interns at PRS will assist in providing research support to PRS analysts, contributing to the preparation of background notes, issue briefs, and legislative analyses that are shared with MPs and other stakeholders.

About the Research Internship:

  • PRS runs rolling internships throughout the year.

  • Interns can choose to work in either the Research Department or Outreach Department, or both.

  • The Research Team works on analysing policy and legislative developments.

  • The Outreach Team focuses on tracking legislatures and legislators, managing public engagement, and coordinating with MPs and MLAs.

  • Interns will be matched with analysts based on their interests and the organisation’s current needs.

  • Every intern is expected to complete an internship project during their tenure.

Structure of the Internship:

  • During Parliament sessions, interns will work closely with analysts on issues being discussed in Parliament.

  • During non-session periods, internship tasks are aligned with the intern’s area of interest.

Expectations from Interns:

  • Strong interest in parliamentary affairs and Indian legislative processes.

  • Proficient analytical and writing skills.

  • Willingness to undertake in-depth policy research.
