Position: Editor (Journals)
Type: Full-time, on-campus role
Duration: One year (extendable)
Location: Bengaluru


About the Role
NLSIU is hiring a Journal Editor to manage and oversee the editorial processes and production of the University’s academic journals. The role includes coordinating with editorial teams, contributors, and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality, timely publications. The Editor will also provide structural and copy-editing input, support indexing efforts, and may assist the Research Administration Team with related editorial tasks.

This opportunity is well-suited to professionals with significant editorial experience, including those returning from a career break or transitioning careers.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage editorial calendars and ensure timely publication of NLSIU’s journals

  • Collaborate with editorial boards and ensure alignment with the university’s publishing standards

  • Coordinate with authors, peer reviewers, editors, printers, and designers

  • Provide structural feedback, copy-editing, and proofreading of journal articles

  • Ensure academic publishing standards are met and assist in indexing efforts

  • Implement stakeholder feedback to improve editorial workflows

  • Support additional editorial duties for research publications as required


Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • A postgraduate degree in law, social sciences, humanities, or a related discipline

Essential Experience

  • 7+ years in editorial roles (candidates with slightly less experience may be considered based on overall profile)

Desirable Experience

  • Prior work as an editor, production associate, or similar role in an academic publishing setting such as universities, journals, or publishing houses

Key Skills

  • Strong project and team management capabilities

  • Proficiency with academic publishing tools, databases, and indexing systems

  • Ability to mentor junior colleagues, including student editors and researchers

  • Effective cross-departmental coordination and stakeholder communication

  • Experience in supervising external editors and designers


Compensation

  • Starting at Rs. 90,000 per month, based on experience and qualifications


Work Mode

  • On-site, Bengaluru campus, five days a week

  • Office Hours: 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM

  • Expected to join at the earliest
