About PRS Legislative Research
PRS Legislative Research (PRS) is a New Delhi-based non-profit organization, established in September 2005, dedicated to strengthening India’s legislative processes. Functioning as an independent research institute, PRS aims to make parliamentary decision-making better informed, more transparent, and inclusive.

About the Opportunity
PRS is inviting applications for its in-person research internship scheduled for June 2025 in New Delhi.

Roles and Responsibilities
Each Indian Member of Parliament (MP) represents over two million people and is involved in legislating around 60 Bills annually. MPs must deal with a wide range of complex policy areas, many of which are highly technical. PRS supports MPs by providing in-depth legislative and policy analysis to aid in informed parliamentary debates.

PRS was co-founded by C.V. Madhukar and M.R. Madhavan in 2005, with M.R. Madhavan currently serving as its President. The organization is chaired by S. Ramadorai and was initially incubated at the Centre for Policy Research (CPR), a premier Indian think tank. Since 2013, it operates independently as the Institute for Policy Research Studies, a registered Section 8 non-profit company. PRS is funded entirely through donations and grants from Indian donors and institutions.

About the Research Internship
PRS offers internships on a rolling basis throughout the year, divided between its two main departments: Research and Outreach.

  • The Research Team focuses on the analysis of current legislative and policy issues.

  • The Outreach Team monitors legislative functioning, engages with citizens, and acts as the liaison between PRS and elected representatives (MPs and MLAs).
Applicants may apply for internships in either or both departments.

Important Note: Applications are currently being accepted only for the June 2025 cycle, and this is a physical, in-office internship.

Internship Structure
The nature of the internship depends on whether Parliament is in session:

  • During sessions, interns assist analysts on projects aligned with current legislative activity.

  • During non-session periods, individual interests of interns are considered and matched with relevant analysts.
All interns are required to undertake and complete a research project as part of their internship experience.

Duration
The internship typically lasts between 4 to 8 weeks, offering some flexibility.

Mode
Offline (in-person) – Interns must report to the PRS office in New Delhi.
